APRICOT 2023 is planning to offer the following 5 parallel workshops. Each workshop will run for five days and participants need to attend all five days of their chosen workshop.

The topic areas and details of each below are provided as a guideline only. Details will be updated in the coming weeks once the topics, instructors, and content are finalised.

Routing Infrastructure and Operational Security

This training course teaches the skills required for the configuration of scalable and secure routing, as well as best practice operation of the networks making up today's Internet. Topics covered include BGP Best Practices, BGP Security Operations Best Practices, BGP Communities, Remotely Triggered Blackhole Filtering, and Route Origin Validation using RPKI.

Network Management, Monitoring & Security

The objective of this workshop is to introduce Network Management and Monitoring concepts by giving an overview of Network fundamentals, Linux fundamentals and exploring some of the Free Open-Source Software (FOSS) tools that can be utilised for Network Management and Monitoring.

Security is a broad topic that affects many aspects relating to end-users, applications, and infrastructure. This workshop also examines key concepts, protocols, policies, and practices to protect data and assets from potential attacks or abuse.

BGP and IPv6 Deployment

This training course is designed for newcomers to BGP and for those who are wishing to learn more about IPv6 for deployment in an operational network. The course is designed for network engineers who are considering deploying BGP in their environment or refreshing their skills. It is also suitable for those who are considering deploying IPv6 across their infrastructure and to their end-users.

Campus Network Design & Operations

This is a technical workshop, made up of lecture and hands-on lab work to teach the skills needed to design, build, operate and manage any organisational network infrastructure according to current best practices.

Content covered includes network design principles, fibre optics, switching, spanning tree, routing (static and IS-IS), dual stack IPv4/IPv6, and a detailed exploration of campus security best practices. The course is designed for University and College campus networks, but many of the principles are applicable to other end-user networks too.

Network Automation for Network Engineers

This training course introduces the principles of Network Automation for network engineers who wish to learn more about automating many of the tedious tasks involved in the day to day operation of a network. The course introduces Docker, Ansible, YAML, GIT, and the writing of playbooks to carry out tasks. It also covers the integration of common network tools and Gitlab CI/CD pipelines.
